Design System Architecture for Plainview Health
Building a component library that serves 40+ healthcare providers across web, mobile, and internal tools — with WCAG AAA compliance baked in.

Plainview Health
A design system built for healthcare — where clarity saves lives.
The Problem
Plainview Health operates 40+ clinics. Each one had its own website, built by different agencies over eight years. Patients in the same network saw wildly different interfaces. Doctors complained about the internal tools. The brand team couldn't enforce consistency. We fixed all of it with one system.

The system ships as three packages:
1. @plainview/tokens — Design tokens (colors, spacing, type scales)
2. @plainview/react — 64 React components with full a11y
3. @plainview/icons — 200+ custom healthcare-specific icons
Every component meets WCAG AAA contrast ratios. Focus management is built in. Screen reader announcements are tested across NVDA, VoiceOver, and JAWS. This isn't checkbox accessibility — it's the real deal.

Responsive type scale across breakpoints
We went from "which clinic website am I on?" to a unified experience that patients actually trust. The accessibility improvements alone reduced support calls by 30%.
